Another Long Weekend here…

Monday, February 19th, 2007 by Ian

…in more ways than one.  It WAS a LONG weekend in Alberta — Family Day Monday.

I also ripped out the last of the old stuff from the ensuite bathroom, put in a new “underlayment” and tiled it.  I really only planned to do the subfloor today, but it didn’t take very long, so I went ahead an tiled.  Not grouted yet, obviously, though.  We already have the new cabinet and counter top/sink and toilet, so I can just go ahead and install those as time permits.

We did have some bad news this weekend too.  A friend of ours’ daughter was pregnant, and they knew there were problems — a (forgive me if I get it wrong) herniated diaphram.  What that means is that the baby’s stomach and liver were growing where the lungs should have been.  Well, the weekend started with the birth, but hours later the boy died.  It’s very sad, he really didn’t have any lung tissue.  We’re going to a simple little memorial tomorrow night.

Happy Birthday Scott.

Just a quickie to recognize that today is Scott’s 42nd birthday.  And I’m not even fourty yet!  Woo Hoo!

Have a good one Scott!

Hidden Danger Crouching Plum

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007 by Scott

It is that season when a hidden danger lurks, ready to strike.  Yes I speak of PLUM season.  Fresh delicious plums hanging on the tree by the bucket-load to be picked, eaten, savoured and as a trap for the young and the unwary.  You see too many plums and … all will not be well.  So one must pace oneself and not eat too many, lest they and their kin regret it.

You have been warned.

A new heart…

Thursday, February 1st, 2007 by Ian

The squid got a new heart tonight (or a new Root drive if that means more to you).  So it should remain up for now.  The second drive is still throwing S.M.A.R.T. errors, so I don;t think it’s long for this world, but it just holds my music — which I have safely backed up — so all should be well regardless.

Please return to your regularly scheduled programming.

The Squid is Hobbling…

The hard drives on are starting to throw errors, so it won’t be long before it’s down again.  I SHOULD be able to get it back up relatively soon, but don’t count on it.  I’ll keep it running as long as it stays up…
