{"id":325,"date":"2006-09-03T01:15:47","date_gmt":"2006-09-03T07:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/squids.ca\/Blog\/?p=325"},"modified":"2006-09-05T16:22:32","modified_gmt":"2006-09-05T22:22:32","slug":"alive-and-well","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.squids.ca\/?p=325","title":{"rendered":"Alive and Well!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As with Ian there are just a few things to update you on &#8230;.. starting with the most fun.<\/p>\n<p>Sam and I had five days of winter holiday down in Queenstown.\u00c2\u00a0 It was my first trip there ever and I have to say, Sam and I had a great time.\u00c2\u00a0 The town itself could be canmore, banff, tahoe ect but the environs were very very nice We flew down, the approach being made up a river valley.\u00c2\u00a0 Its not often in a 737 that you can see the people on the hill tops above you only a couple hundred metres away.\u00c2\u00a0 We rented a ford &#8220;Territory&#8221; an Australian made and design AWD crossover thingy.\u00c2\u00a0 Other than the fuel consumption (HUGE) its was great,\u00c2\u00a0as there\u00c2\u00a0no road feel or skill needed\u00c2\u00a0&#8230; just point it and go.\u00c2\u00a0 We skied about four times, for me the skills came back fast, but the fitness well &#8230; that was the weak link.\u00c2\u00a0 I generally skied half days and Sam skied full days.\u00c2\u00a0 We got a ride in on the <strong>Shotover jet<\/strong> (google it) \u00c2\u00a0and spend the rest of the time exploring before driving up to Christchurch and then flying home.\u00c2\u00a0 I found that as long as I handed someone a hundred dollars every few hours, we had a good time.\u00c2\u00a0 Sam had to work like a demented squirrel the rest of the holiday.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Oh &#8230; we&#8217;ve changed our coins this month.\u00c2\u00a0 Gone are the big clunky coins replaced with a 10 cent piece that is copper, a 20 cent piece that is about the size of a quarter and a fifty cent piece that is just a little bigger than that.\u00c2\u00a0 The same one and two dollar coins as before.\u00c2\u00a0 If anyone wants a few, please let me know.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Spring is coming fast with the warmer weather, the lambs and daffodils!\u00c2\u00a0 Lots of daffs.\u00c2\u00a0 My bees are looking very strong right now with the colonies building fast and spring nector flowing.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m a bit worried about swarming but I think I&#8217;ll be okay.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve started mowing and spraying and generally knocking back the weeds, grass and trees.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh yah I had a guy in to help me top the row of lawson cypress alsong the drive.\u00c2\u00a0 We took about 5 m off the 15 m height.\u00c2\u00a0 We even saw a few very early ducklings!\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lastly I have had some sucess flying my radio controlled gliders.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve built and been testing a slope soarer as well as my floater.
