Dad’s home.

Thursday, August 19th, 2004 by Ian

I know it’s been a while since I’ve added anyting, but every time I sit down to type something, I don’t know what to say or talk about. Turns out I have to talk about my Dad.

He went in for surgury to get a colostomy bag so he’d be more comfortable, but they ended up taking the tumour out and fixed up his plumbing instead. Apparently this doctor is very pragmatic about doing the reconstruction, and won’t do it unless he feels good about the recovery. So, this is good news.

Anyway, Dad was supposed to come home from the hospital on Tuesday last, but he came down with a fever. A little bit scary at the time because they weren’t sure if it was a leak or what was going on, so they took him for a CAT scan. Everything came back normal, and it turns out he just had a simple urinary tract infection. Antibiotics cleared it right up, and he came home today.

He still looks VERY tired and a little sunken, but I think you would too if you haven’t eaten anyting for the past 2 months and underwent relatively major surgury! Our task now is to fatten him back up for the trials ahead!

Little Better….

Dad was much calmer this evening when we stopped by. It was good to see. It rips my heart apart seeing him the other way. Anyway, he has an appointment with the surgeon tomorrow. Say a prayer that he gets some much needed GOOD news. Even if it’s only a little good. He needs it.

We’re off tomorrow on a 6:00AM flight to Toronto and will TRY to be relaxed. I’ll write more in a week when I get back.

Bad week….

Wednesday, August 4th, 2004 by Ian

It’s been a bad week. Dad is REALLY shaken up by his news and that has transfered to me some. It’s very painful seeing him in this state, but he seems to be getting a little better and starting to deal with it. That’s good. He needs to get on with physically getting it out and coping with treatments. It’s the sitting and waiting that’s killing him right now. Not helping me much either. He says “each day feels like it’s two weeks long”. Sigh. Sigh. Sigh. I’m wound pretty tightly now too…

We’re going ahead with our trip to the cottage and will be out of contact from the 5th to the 15th of August, and as our house sitter will be living in the office again, the computers MAY be going up and down. So expect delays.
