Some pictures of the high water at the cottage:
(Thanks, Ian, for your help here with editing.)
The rock Brady is standing on is typically high and dry. I put my lawn chair next to it and use the tall, flat rock as a drink/sunscreen platform. The small trees and shrubs are terrestrial, not aquatic, plants. In fact, the entire area that we use for sunning/sitting/playing is under water.
Brady and I took a late evening kayak to the falls. They look more like Niagra than Bala right now – white and roaring. Along the way we saw underwater docks, missing buoys (not enough line to reach the surface), and capsized boats that had previously sat high on dry land. Moody’s Point is now Moody’s Island. The local garden centre is offering plants “to replace the plants that can’t swim”.
Ian – update us again on Calgary flooding, please. I heard on the news that the Bow and Elbow are at record levels.
