Calgary has declared a “State of Emergency”, but it’s not really effecting us directly. Fish Creek has totally overflowed onto Banister Road (if you remember where that is…right by the Funeral Home on McLeod). In fact, Quinn and I tried to go down to Fish Creek to take some more pictures of the latest flooding, but a police car was parked there turning everyone around. I can only assume that it must be higher than it was last week.
In terms of Calgary, the Elbow River overflowed into property that backs onto it, so 2000 people were evacuated from the downtown area, and while the Bow River is certainly running very high and swamping Prince’s Island Park, I haven’t heard of any local flooding of residential areas.
The local news is full of road closures, backed up sewer lines and flooded towns (Okotoks, High River, Black Diamond, etc…) but today, the sun is shining and we’re forcasted for at least a few days of sun. The water levels should be going down soon. If Quinn and I can get down near the creek, I’ll take some more pictures.
Also, Happy Father’s Day to any fathers that are reading this. Our plans for the day include going out to “visit” Dad, and then dinner at Joan’s house.
MY goodness ……
I do not think in my whole life that we have had that much flooding. A day here or there and maybe a little trouble now and again. I do remember Fish Creek flooding twice. It got up into the areas you describe but it was only because of a thunderstorm dumping rain in the catchment. DId you see anyone building an a large boat and assebling animals …??
In fact, Mom has now had a leak, not too major, but some wet carpet in the basement and few puddles. Apparently Sue has had a leak of some sort too. Len was up several times last night vacuuming up water. I haven’t seen their place though.
So, in the 35 years we’ve owned that house, it’s never leaked, now it is…tell you something?
IT’S WET HERE! And yet, we’re under a water conservation order! They can’t clean it fast enough!
How interesting. I just got an e-mail from a friend who’s parents live on 40th ave .. and their basement has 5 feet of water in it. Wet wet wet eh. Strangly we had heavy rain last night that kept me awake most of the night. We have a small leak as well …..
Say Hi to “Dad” for me mate!
