We bought a new van.

Posted on August 15, 2005 by Ian

I know I should be excited, but frankly, I’m exhausted. We did just buy a new 2005 Toyota Sienna. We went for the base model because, even though I am a geek, I view all the bells and whistles as “things that will break”, and who REALLY needs automatic side doors and such? Maybe if we had a baby, but there’s really no need for it now.
So, it was a toss up between the Honda Odyssey and the Sienna. Honda is touted as “the Lexus of Minivans”, and we really liked it…better than the Toyota, but it was $5000 more (almost $40000 Canadian!!!). We decided we didn’t like it THAT much more. We’ll be happy with the Sienna. It can pull our trailer and is functionally equivalent to the Odyssey at a bit of a cheaper price. But….whew! What a stressful ordeal. We traded in our old van…obviously didn’t get enough for it, you never do with a trade-in, but I wasn’t prepared to sell it myself…and spent most of the afternoon in the dealers “haggling” over the “no haggle” price. Anyway, I’ll get some pictures up as soon as we actually get it….Thursday or Friday with any luck.

I hate cars….and vans…..and trucks….

ah, we all live in the land of the minivan…hope yours has lots of cupholders…that seemed to be one of the crucial factors in our decision. We liked both of them also…but I will admit we liked the Odyssey more. Didn’t seem so pricey down here. But isn’t it neat to have that nice tight new steering…thats better than the new car smell…..

I totally agree. Nothing feels better than a new, tight, vehicle. And really, just not worrying about whether we’ll make it home this time is worth it too.

Nice Buy! What is it about you and vehicles. I’ve never know anyone with such bad luck? Are you going to clean this one? Get it services and the like? Has anyone spilled a 48 oz dairy queen treat in it yet?

Hmmm…..seems to me it was YOUR KIN (good old Sam) that dumped the Dairy Queen in the old van. Keep him on the other side of the planet and we should be okay! <kidding>

I HATE vehicles. We look after them, get them serviced and they just break on us. That’s why we’re giving Japanese brands a try. the North American cars all seem to be crap.

In regard to cupholders, Terry, can you believe it comes with 15! There’s only 8 seats! What on earth would you need 15 cupholders for? One of the selling "features" of the luxury models is another 2 cupholders! Please! Enough with the cupholders!
