Storm in Bala, No Damage at Our Cottage

Posted on August 3, 2006 by Vivian

I drove home Sunday, Monday (a luxury – took two days instead of one – it was a snap that way).  Boys phoned last night to report an incredible storm, one like we’ve never seen there before.  No power, power lines down everywhere.  They counted four driveways on River Street blocked by fallen trees.  As of this morning the power is still out, but Hydro One’s website reports it was to be restored several hours ago.  Fortunately, we had tree pruning done last week, and most significant dead branches had been removed.  Even so, the boys say there is a fair amount of tree debris in the yard.

The storm had been preceded by an intense heatwave.  Yesterday and the day before, when I checked weather, it was hotter and more humid there than it was here.  Amazing.  The boys must have suffered a miserable night last night because, with no power, they could use no fans.

I’m rushing around like a madwoman, trying to catch up on the essentials I missed while away at the cottage.  Tomorrow morning, early, I leave for LA for a Bat Mitzvah (and wish me luck that no whacko decides to bomb the synagogues).   When I return, next Wednesday, I will resume in the madwoman rushing mode as I help get Brady ready.  I have to get him to DC by the 17th.  He’ll be in an apartment, so we’ll be carrying a household in the Odyssey.  This is why, at an advanced age, I still drive a minivan.

Wow! Lucky break with the trees. I thought I had heard that there was a cold front moving in to the region this week. The storm must have come with that. Goog luck in LA Viv!

Get a life! Sam moans when he has to operate at dial up speeds. Some of us have no choice!
