A little belated Happy New Year to those in the far south, and a little early Happy New Year to those up here! To quote Quinn, “We’re having a BIG party!” Though it really won’t be big. Just a bunch of 40-50 year olds with nothing better to do New Year’s Eve, hanging around and drinking beer. It’ll be a “nice” evening though…just not exciting.
I also promised Sam I would update him on my first ever day snowboarding. To sum it up, I have never been this sore in my life! Well, I probably have, but I hurt something fierce! My forearm muscles are all torn up from falling forward on my hands, my biceps are all sore from pushing myself back up, my back is killing me from being jarred all day and my legs hurt because it’s an entirely different set of muscles than skiing. I DID have fun though! It was different being a beginner on the hill again!
My most memorable moment was sliding on my toe edge (facing into the hill), when I caught the back edge, fell backwards downhill, broke my arse on the ground and saw stars, then my head snapped back and hit the ground…saw stars again! I literally thought I had broken something at that point, but no…just broken pride. The kids weren’t around to see it though!
We were at Sunshine, and, though I DID make one attempt up Standish, I stuck to Strawberry most of the day. Nice and easy. I was getting the hang of it by the end of the day and I think even Dylan was impressed — I could carve…slowly…and I could use both sides of the board.
I gave up around 3:30 because I was thinking to myself, “I CAN’T fall again..I literally CAN’T. I won’t be able to get up if I do!”
But, like I said, I was fun…painful…but fun!
Snowboarding….dude….(insert California accent here)….good foryou trying new stuff like that….Happy New Year from us…we stayed up until 2:45 playing PIT!! A wee bit tired today.
Ya, we were up until 3:00 ourselves playing Pictionary and Charades. We actually DID get Pit for XMas from Santa but Shelley refused to get it out since it’s so lound…..like the other games weren’t!
It’s 1:00PM now and I just had to fish Quinn out of bed, and Shelley’s still in bed. Dylan spent the night at a friend’s house last night.
Happy New Year proper to all y’all.
I’ll add my Happy New Year too!! Mine was very quiet–dinner and a movie at my neighbours but we broke out the procecco after the movie and I wandered across the street at 2:30 am. Here’s to good things in ‘p7!
Hey ya’ll welcome to 2007! We spend our new years playing dominos (and trinominos) in a caravan refugee camp just out of Geraldine. Since we had to be on the road at 0800 we stayed up until midnight and then tried to sleep while the camp celebrated….. we were tired too …..
Well done Ian on that desperate attempt to recapture your youth. HAHAHAHAHAaaaaaaaaaa I’m jealous!
Haha that’ll learn ya for being a wannabe punk teenager!
My new year’s was rather unusual… Went down to Dunedin, being the south island’s second largest city, and the place where most of the population travels FROM for new year’s. A different experience from nelson, where half the southern hemisphere seem to travel TO. Actually had a great time with a couple of friends, spectacular fireworks show, and Coronas served by the bucketful (literally in buckets!).
Got to sleep about 5am I think, so I’m still feeling vaguely jetlagged, but without the pay off of actually being someplace foreign, exotic or interesting. Sigh.
Happy new year to all!
