An Odd Happening…

Posted on January 11, 2007January 11, 2007 by Ian

So, I was calmly minding my own business in traffic (HA!) on the way home from work tonight, when I looked at the mountains. It was a crystal clear twilight, as it can only be when it’s -20C, so I looked to the silhouette of the mountains which was clear and sharp…and what was there? THIS COMET!(McNaught) I honestly couldn’t believe it. I hadn’t heard anything in a long time about any astronomical events, and I haven’t been following the “scene” for a while either, but there it was! The picture I linked to is almost exactly what I saw. You too might me able to see it for another night or two. Right after sunset, look to the horizon near where the sun just went down. Too cool.

Thanks to Sky and Telescope!

This implies that it will be visible in the evening in the south over the next week or so…

Very neat Ian…too cloudy here to see…apparently brighter than Hale-Bop’

Enjoyed your pics immensely Scott…especially the incarcerated laddie with attitude!…The pics give a good sense of how friggin cold it must have been for your summer vacation!! Got any more town pics??? Invercargill always intrigued me because of being the end of the road.

Speaking of pics, I’m gonna start putting up a few old pics that Warren had….olde family stuff that I’ve been able to repair a bit in photoshop. If I can figure out the posting technique here. Consider this a bit of a tribute to Warren.
