South At the Top Maps

Posted on July 15, 2003 by Ian

A was just cruising a web site, when I was reminded of maps that have south at the top. I think these are a great idea! Even I get tired of everything being Europe or North America centric. The fact of the matter is that there is nothing wrong with having South at the top. The latitude numbering scheme works exactly the same way (90 degrees at the top, 0 at the equator) and lines of longitude are switched in the direction they get bigger (which is now different, but it’s just east and west of Greenwich, which is arbitrary anyway). Who could care?

It would help keep perspective on our “NorthWest Quadrant” thinking.

Is there a place down there in NZ where we could buy one Scott? Any chance you could mail one up?
