The Long Weekend

Posted on August 5, 2003 by Ian

Well, it’s been a MOST interesting long weekend! We started off Saturday by ripping out the old deck in the back yard. I wish I could say that was without incident, but it wasn’t.

We got most of the deck out, and I was removing nails from the boards (I don’t need a kid stepping on a rusty nail), but who gets the nail? ME! And not in the foot either. I was picking up a board to drag it to where I was removing the nails when it flipped on me and drove 2 inches of rusty nail into my forearm. Sure it doesn’t sound that bad, but according to the paramedic (yes, the paramedic) I must have it a vein or artery. I have never seen blood pump out of my body like that, and I have to admit I got a little bit wigged out. I was home alone with the kids, too.

So, Dylan called 911 while I got a tournaquet (sp?) on. By the time the ambulance got there it had actually stopped bleeding. There was really nothing they could do, either.

So here I am, unable to play my guitar, but still getting the area ready for the new deck. I figure it will take me a couple weeks of evenings, but it’ll get done this summer for sure. We’ve also been video taping the progress so I’ll get some shots on the web soon.

No real action. Sorry. Just much laughing and a very small puncture wound…Kinda embarassing really!
